Is there a "live" body I can speak with to help me with Road Merchant and help trouble shoot any problems in the future, should they arise? You can ring our offices toll free M-F, 9:00am - 5:00pm PST at 888-731-5979. Email us anytime, and if during waking hours we usually respond under an hour. Will the Road Merchant application, once purchased and downloaded, allow me to process credit cards from my Blackberry & utilize my existing Paypal merchant account? Road Merchant works with PayPal Payments Pro. This is a service PayPal currently charges $30/month for. Most PayPal merchants use the Payments Standard, which is no additional cost, and won't work with Road Merchant because PayPal doesn't allow us to communicate with their gateway unless your pay their monthly fee. The trial version of Road Merchant can be used with your live account and run real transactions. Please verify it works for you before you purchase the software. Is the $24.95 a one-time fee for purchasing the Road Merchant application for my phone? Are there any other fees (monthly or otherwise) Road Merchant charges associated with this application and using my own Merchant Account? Just the one time fee, which includes free upgrades. No other monthly fees associated with using Road Merchant. If you desire to use the supported card reader, there will be a $49.95 charge for that functionality unless your purchase the card reader from our card reader store. I am running transactions using my account in test mode, and no matter what exp. date, cvc or zip code I enter, it comes back approved. Why? When you run test transactions with your account, or transactions using the demo account, the info you send to authorize.net does not get transmitted to the bank/card issuer, so there is no card validation that can take place. You can use any exp. date, cvc, or zip code in test or demo mode, and it will all get approved. Only when you process REAL transactions will card validation take place. What kind of merchant account can I use with Road Merchant? Road Merchant configures a connection string to send to NMI, Authorize.net or a gateway that is compatible with Authorize.net if configured to do so. It also works with PayPal's Website Payments Pro. This works with both e-commerce, or CNP (card not present) accounts and CP (card present) accounts. For those looking to establish a new merchant account, we have located incredible rates we can pass on to you. Please click the Merchant Account tab at the top of the screen for more info! Does my merchant account only work through Road Merchant? No! Road Merchant offers a robust, quick authorization solution anywhere there is a network connection on your BlackBerry. Every merchant account processed through the Authorize.net gateway comes with a Virtual Terminal. This Virtual Terminal is accessed from any web browser and offers complete transaction processing. You can use BlackBerry where ever it is convenient, both in the office and out, and when you want a "real keyboard" and "real screen" to process transactions, you can use your office workstation to log onto your virtual terminal. When I process transactions, I get the transaction log result "This transaction cannot be accepted." Why? This is a common error if you incorrectly typed your transaction key information on the settings screen (this is the terminal ID on version 1.0). Please verify your API and retype your transaction key (terminal ID) on the settings screen being very careful for correct input. Don't you need to get a signature for the charges over a certain amount? No. There are two main types of merchant accounts. A Card Present account is an account that requires the physical presence of the card/person for the transaction (also known as swiped transactions). With this type of transaction, you are usually required to have them sign for the charge. This is the type of account that the retail industry uses: stores, restaurants, etc. The second type of account is Card Not Present account. This is the type of account web merchants use. With this type of account, you just need the credit card number, expiration, and amount, but some processors require you to also get address verification and the CVC2 code. It may seem like the Card Not Present would be the better account to get (less restrictions), but with the Card Not Present account comes a higher fraud and chargeback risk. As a result, a Card Not Present account carries a slightly higher qualified discount rate (the percent of the sale you must pay the creditor). A Card Present account (swiped transactions) usually has a discount rate between 1.70% and 1.99%, and a Card Not Present account (web merchant) has a higher rate of 2.10% - 2.50%+. What is the difference between "Demo Account" and "Test Transactions" on the settings screen? With Demo Account Mode, transactions are sent to a special testing server. This is to run transactions and try the software functions without the need of your own merchant account. The Test Transactions sends transactions to the live (real) server with your own API and Transaction ID and gives a response as if it did process the transaction, but does not actually process the transaction. The Test Transactions mode is used to set up your merchant account info in Road Merchant and to verify it is working. Remember, even if you accidentally send a real transaction, you can immmediately and conveniently void it simply by pressing the Void button at the bottom the the successful transaction information screen. I live in the UK. Can I use Road Merchant? YES! We have an affiliation with a company that can provide merchant account in over 150 countries! See our International Merchant Account page or call us at (888) 731-5979. You can also use PayPal's Website Payments Pro. What is a Chargeback and how can I minimize them? A Chargeback is when the credit card issuer takes back the funds from the sale and returns all or a portion of it back to the customer. The two main reasons for this is that the customer is dissatisified with the product and can't resolve it directly with you first, and the second is the customer claims they never made the charge in the first place. A Chargeback because of a dissatisified customer usually can be avoided by open lines of communication. This type of chargeback is most detrimental to your account standing. Too many of these types of chargebacks against you would put your merchant account in jeopardy. You must try to resolve the customer's issues directly, and if you can't, it may be better to issue a refund rather than wait for the customer to file a chargeback claim against you. The first thing the card issuer will ask the card holder is if they contacted the merchant first before filing a chargeback claim. If they didn't, the card issuer usually won't pursue it until they do this first. If the card holder says they did contact you but couldn't get satisfaction, an investigation will be started. In cases of customer satisifaction, the card issuer usually sides with their card holder. A Chargeback because the card holder denies the charges can be because of three reasons. First, an unauthorized person used the card. This could be another family member, a friend, or even a criminal who stole the card. Second, the card holder could just have forgotten about making the charge. And third, the card holder is lying about making the charge. To avoid unauthorized charges, it is in your best interest to verify the identity of the individual making the charge, verify the signature on the card, and also use AVS(address) and CVC (card code) verification when making the charge. To prove the the cardholder was present and did make the charge with you, here are a few methods you can use:
